Q. Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do for a living? 
A.  I’m an 8 year United States Navy veteran. I traveled all over the world until my final duty station led me to San Diego, CA. I became a registered yoga teacher and now working in clinical trials with a local pharmaceutical company. 

Q. How do you balance your exercise regime and your professional life?
A. Leading yoga practice 3x a week at work gave me a pretty good balance. I also led a Runner’s Yoga clinic once a week. 


Q. When and why did you start running? 
A.  I started running in 1997 to prepare for boot camp. 

Q. What motivates you to go out there, when you do not feel like it?  A. Knowing there’s a runner out there, getting miles that I should be running…that motivates me! 

Q. What is the longest distance you have ran? 
A. The longest distance I ran was a 50K ultramarathon.


Q. What gives you the confidence to run in the streets?
A. Knowing I can.  I love running in the streets.  No matter the distance, I see it as a marathon rehearsal.  Especially early in the morning, I make the streets mine! 


Q. What do you think about the lack of exercise among the youth?  
A. I believe it starts at home.  Encourage youth and make it fun for them. 


Q. What was your best running experience?
A. My best running experience:  Completing an ultramarathon.  

Q. What was your worst running experience?  
A. My worse running experience:  Self-diagnosing myself while running on an injury. 

Q. How do you push through the pain?
A. Physical pain, I do the RICE (Rest Ice Compression Elevate) method.  Mental pain, I dig deep and remind myself why I love running. 


Q. What advice can you give somebody who wants to start running?
A. “You wont hurt your knees!”  After that, Id say, “Visit your local running store and do a treadmill test.  Get the proper fit and meet me in the park for a fun run.”

...physical and mental.

...is mine.

...12 marathons in one year, one for each month.

...being true to yourself, free flowing.

12. I do not like runners who … 
...dont return waves or head nods.
