If the run is not tracked, then did the run really happen? #Questionsthatneedanswers
Fitbit released the Fitbit Versa a few months ago and I got to test it out for a month. This watch was on my wrist 24/7, I took it running, I took it to The Arena, I showered with it, I did a HIIT session with it at Ritual Gym, It integrated effortlessly with my corporate outfit, it was just a functional addition to my life.
Tech Specs...
Below are some of the top features of the Fitbit Versa
- Bluetooth - The watch can connect to a pair of bluetooth earphones, wires are sooooooo 2014.
- 4 day battery life - Charge it once a week for about 2 hours and you are free to sweat for the week.
- Multiple Sport Modes - Run, Swim, Hike, HIIT just sweat Beyps.
- Sleep tracking - Doze off and when you wake up you will see how deep your sleep was.
- NFC payments - Not available in South Africa yet, but it would be cool to pay by tapping your watch.
These are just some of the features that stood out for me, there's a full list of features here
What I liked...
For starters, the battery life. I am a sucker for good battery life. I don't like it when my gadgets lose battery power, so much so that I always want them to be on 100 % power. I am waiting patiently for the day when our gadgets get recharged by kinetic energy. This watch is light, like very light and I like how I could wear it with my running gear, casual clothes and work clothes. The Fitbit Versa that I had for review was black and as we know black goes with everything. Black sometimes is boring for me, especially when it comes to fitness gear. If you are like me, you can change the straps.
Being a part of the Fitbit community keeps you on your toes, literally. On a random sunday I'd be chilling and then get a notification that a friend has invited me to the workweek hustle step challenge. From that monday, I am going to be parking the furthest from the door and using the stairs just so that I can get my steps in.
I am always conscious of my resting heart rate. This watch continuously trackws my heart rate through out the day. This feature even more valuable at the gym. I need to get my vitality points and reach my goal for the week.
You can also download apps onto the watch, the range of apps is not extensive though. You can also download music onto the watch to take with you for the run. Deezer offers free 3 months streaming for fitbit buyers.
What I disliked...
Due to the automatic activity tracking, sometimes the watch would record false exercise activity. There were days when it would show that I participated in indoor cycling which wasn't the case and that messed with my vitality points for the week. Unlike the Fitbit Ionic, the Versa does not have a built in GPS which means to get a map of your running route, you have to link it to your phone.
Verdict...
This is a stylish and versatile watch that retails for about R3 000. It can be purchased from fitness shops such as Totalsports and Sportsmans Warehouse or from Takealot.com
If you are in the market for a new watch and running with your phone is not a problem for you. This might be the watch for you, my eyes are on the special edition Rose Gold aluminium case with woven lavender band.
Have you used the Fitbit Versa? What are your thoughts on it?
