On who you are…
My name is George Gladwin Tsakane Matsheke, im the Creative Editor of Marvin (www.marvin.co.za) an online magazine for men. I am from Alexandra township, I have two other sibilings namely Nkateko and Octavia. I am a graphoc designer by education, art director by profession Creative Editor by passion. I am a full time entrepreneur and I run Marvin and small digital agency.
I love traveling, being online, playstation (my new obsession), music and running. Ive been running for about 3-4 years now and it’s the one thing that helps me deal with my daily stress of running a business.
On running…
I run all the time, I run when I'm stressed most of the time, I run when there is something to celebrate as well. I find running as one of those things where I can be on my own and spend some time by myself. I run about four times a week, usually have a quick swim after that so that I don’t fall asleep for the rest of the day. Ive done two marathons (21km) so far and I'm hoping on doing more this year as well – I just don’t know about the marathons that are there until obviously they are happening on that day.
On Street culture…
I don’t know what to say here, the only streets I know really are alex streets. In general the street culture is very important I believe because that’s how trends are born and new things get momentum.
On Running culture…
I love the running culture and everyone is doing it which is really cool, id love to do a Marvin’s running club one day for the north side of Johannesburg because going to town just to run is rather silly. I love running mainly because it helps with stress really – I'm not into for losing weight like most people, but not gaining weight kinda helps as well.
On gadgets…
I love gadgets, I'm a guy – what guy doesn’t love gadgets? Its like a guy who doesn’t drink or love sports, cars or one who doesn’t do anything physical, you cant trust that guy. Im everything digital so gadgets are my thing, ive been using apple for the last 13 years so basically I have everything apple even though the iphone 6 is probably the worst iphone in the history of iphones (Rest In Peace Steve Jobs, Tim Cook never loved us)
On injury…
I'm a lefty so when I run most of body weight is distributed on the left, I have to be conscious about that when I run or I will get injured. I have an knee support thingy that I put on when I run anything more than 10km to help with my left knee. I give my body a breaks now and again now than I did when I started if I run today I rest the next day and so on. Injuries are not nice because then I have to find other ways to deal with my stress.
On achievements…
Marvin turned one year this year, that is an achievement for me and following my dream to do Marvin full time as well. Marvin has been received very well by a lot of people and we didn’t expect that so that’s really cool. Marvins Room as well is another achievement that I'm very proud of – basically Marvin Room is an event where there is good music, good people, good vibes, it’s a once a month event that happens in Melrose Arch once a month. We haven't done any events this year but they should be coming soon. Marvin makes me smile.
On future goals…
Is to have my crush slide into my DM’s – I kid, I kid! Is to make my parents proud really, to make Marvin the best content platform in the world. To be a great husband, father and leader of those who follow me (this excludes the people on twitter, instagram and facebook). I pray that I live long enough to do all the crazy idea I have in my head such as owning an interior design company because I love furniture, most of my furniture is specifically made for me. And obviously owning the Mercedes Benz 350 S Class with a driver obviously (because who wants to drive such a big car) and individual seats at the back that means it’s a four seater no four, four masihlalisane.
I just want to be a better human being really, made better decisions because where we are right now is the results of our own decisions.
On your social media…
I love social media, I prefer Tumblr and Path (its an elite social media platform, its not cheap on data though). Social Media can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing depending on how you use it, dont put personal stuff for everyone to read though. Twitter is much more fun on Sundays because of black twitter. Facebook is for everyone else but its funny and fun though its like being in the detention class where all the misfits are – its always fun in that class. Obviously I run a lot and I use the nike app to keep up with my kilometers.
On Pink…
I like pink, I remember when it was fashionable for men to wear shirts I'm glad that trend is gone though. Pink represent a fight against cancer, I lost an aunt to cancer and she was very nice to me so that helps. Oh her name was Pinky may her soul rest in peace, maybe that why I like pink *ponders. Besides that I used to work for Avon Justine they loved pink …
On Pain…
In the last 18 months ive lost a lot, lost two grandmothers and my mother and broke up with my girlfriend so pain has been a theme in my life at this moment. The beauty of life the pain never lasts
