1. Who you are, how old you are and what you do?
My name
is Anna Hankings-Evans, but I often go by my Ghanaian name, Akosua. I was born
on a Sunday, the 23rd of November 1986 (27 years old) and I am an Ashanti. In
Ghana we have the tradition to name people by the day they were born. But I am
also German. I studied law in Freiburg, Istanbul and Berlin and am currently
specializing in international law, investment law and human rights law. I am doing
my PhD and researching on investments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
2. Location and crew?
I am an German-Ghanaian Afropolitan (a term made popular by
one of my favorite authors, Taiye Selasi) and currently based in Berlin.
However, I am always on the road, never standing still. I run everywhere I
travel, which is why I often run alone, and in different environments. Once I
am back in Berlin, I run with my crew here, the Berlin Braves.
3. What you have gained from running?
From
running I gained the insight that nothing is impossible or at least that you
should never give up. Running was not always easy for me. When I started out, I
could barely manage to run 5 kilometres. At times, it's still tough. Running
long distances can be very exhausting. Yet, nothing is more overwhelming than
pushing through. It's kinda like life itself. Everyone experiences going
through a rough patch in their lives. Overcoming it is what makes life great.
4. What you hope to achieve in future?
Professionally, I hope to one day improve both living situation and
development of people, who are being disregarded by the current legal regime.
I hope to one day be able to offer alternatives to the existing normative rules
and regulations. Personally, I just want to be a good role model to my
sisters.
I am an
IndieRunner, because by running I try to motivate and inspire my friends.
Running connects people and can serve as a cultural exchange. Never not
running.
