Part 2 of my "the women" series is contributed to by this amazing lady that I met at run club. I truly have met the best of people from run club. This month is all about leggings and sports bras.

Q: Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do for a living?
A.   My name is Valentine Gaudin, 31 year old Frenchie who has been living in SA for about 7 years now! I am the general manager for TRACE in South africa. I also have a passion for earring making, I have my own brand called “WAL” and I am launching my website soon (a lil bit of self promo doesn’t hurt lol www.misswal.com)

Q: How do you balance your exercise regime and your professional life?
A.  I always try to make time to work out, of course sometimes its not possible as work can get really hectic…but I need it! For me sport is a very good stress reliever! Also, I love good food (NOT junk food but good food) so it helps me keep in shape and not become obese! lol

Q. What does your weekly fitness regime consist of?
A.  Mondays = go hot or bikram yoga (1h30 of yoga in a 40 degrees & humid room if you are not sure what it is - anyone reading this please come try with me its awesome!)
Tuesdays = “bootcamp” with some friends at Planet fitness
Wednesdays = flow yoga or bootcamp or run club (whenever I can leave the office early!)
Thursdays = forrest yoga
Fridays = “bootcamp”
Saturday = Flow yoga (if I don’t go to bed too late on fridays ;-)
Sunday = REST

Q. When and why did you start running?
A. I started running about two years ago when I first joined the Nike Rosebank club! At that time running 2.5kms for me was a great achievement! lol

Q. What motivates to go out there, when you do not feel like it?
A.  Its really hard but you have to push yourself, you really feel great afterwards!
But what is motivating me right now is my wedding day in April! I wanna look amazing in my wedding dress!

Q. What is the longest distance you have ran?
A.   I ran a half marathon (21kms) at the Two Oceans in Cape town in 2013

Q. What do you love about running?
A.    I like the fact that ANYONE can just put on some shoes and get out there no matter what…

Q. What do you hate about running?
A.  Running is hard, im not going to lie – I think I hate the first few minutes when I start running…but as soon as I get into it im good! Oh and I also HATE hills!! hahahaha

Q. What would you like to achieve in the future in terms of running?
A.  Maybe run another 21kms! I don’t think I will ever be able to run a full marathon…but you never know!! Never say never!

Q. What do you think about the lack of exercise among the youth?
A.  I just think its sad…young people around me spend way too much time on their phones, computers…I must say im glad I had a “normal” childhood (glad I was born before technology took over!!) growing up in France in small village I used to ride my bike to go to school, played basketball, played outside with my friends…so I’ve always been an active person. In SA, there’s a lack of information about “healthy” living and lifestyle; but I guess poverty makes it also difficult for a lot of people to have access to gyms & healthy food so its a tricky one…

Q. What was your best running experience?
A.  Crossing the finish line at the two oceans…as mentioned before running 2.5kms was an achievement so to be able to run 21kms I had to train really hard!

Q. What was your worst running experience?
A.  Running with a big blister!

Q. How do you push through the pain?
A.  I don’t stop, literally don’t stop…I slow down but I don’t stop or walk –I keep on running! that what seems to work for me!

Q. What is your favourite shoe to run in?
A.  I currently run in Nike Flynit Lunar
Q. What can you not run without?
A.  MUSIC!

Q. What advice can you give somebody who wants to start running?
A. Start with short distances and increase…Also, found good friends to run with and motivate yourselves!
But what really helped me is yoga – I built my core, muscle strength over the years thanks to it. Yoga also helps for reducing the risk of injuries.

Q. Which Social media sites are you on and how can one follow you?
A. @Valentine_gaudin on twitter
     Valentingaudin on instagram
