On Who You Are ...
My name is Mell, I’m 26 years old and I live and work in London.
After completing my first marathon in March this year, I am determined to run 2 marathons per year. I am currently training for my second marathon, and am thoroughly enjoying the challenge! I do a long run every Sunday, and it is the most fantastic way to release stress and end the week of a true sense of accomplishment.
There are a variety of great running communities throughout London, and I have recently invested more time in running with others. This has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but in the best way possible - it has pushed me to become faster and stronger.
On your First Run...
My first race was Race For Life in summer 2013. It was a 5k race, and I found it unbelievably challenging. 4 years on and I am running marathons and have a completely different mindset - I have fallen in love with running!
On achievements - My greatest running achievement is completing my first marathon, in April this year. I had previously been advised that the feeling of completing a marathon for the first time is indescribable, and I can confirm that this is accurate - I have goosebumps just thinking about it!
On Future Goals...
In addition to my second marathon, which I will be running in October, I would love to complete an ultra-marathon in the future. Race to the Stones would be a fantastic achievement!
On Pain...
A massive cliche, but you have to run through it. Focus, adapt your mind set, and stay strong.
On women’s running (why women should run)...
It goes without saying that I am biased - I think everyone should run. However, as a woman, I have (like many others) experienced issues when out and about running, particularly when running solo. Whilst this is extremely tiresome, this has not dampened my passion for running in any way - and I encourage other women to persevere and ignore any silly comments you may receive!
